Technically, the San Francisco 49ers' three-day rookie minicamp does not begin until Saturday. But with the 49ers essentially waiting a week before holding the camp, those players have been able to take part in Phase 2 of the team’s offseason training program this week.

It is a way, so to speak, of gently bringing the rookies in so they don’t have to feel as though they have to go from 0 to 100 with the rookie camp. And it helps that nine of the 49ers’ 10 draft picks are already signed.

maillot nfl pas cher,Plus, first-round pick Arik Armstead is expected to arrive today to sign his contract (he could not attend before today because of school still being in session with Oregon being on the quarter system).

"We’re still evaluating exactly where we’re at," said first-year 49ers coach Jim Tomsula.

"This is taking the nerves out of it…we’re getting as close to football as you can get, but it’s not football."

A sampling of the veterans seen working out alongside the rookies: quarterback Colin Kaepernick, running back Reggie Bush, tight end Vernon Davis, linebacker Aldon Smith, strong safety Antoine Bethea and linebackers Michael Wilhoite and NaVorro Bowman.

Plus, Hall of Fame linebacker Charles Haley was working with Smith and other linebackers.

There was, however, no sign of defensive lineman Justin Smith, at least, not during the media window. He was expected to have a sitdown with general manager Trent Baalke to give an update on whether he would return for a 15th NFL season or retire. Smith has been around the facility working out, though Tomsula reiterated that nothing should be gleaned from that, either.

"We’re not trying to make it a saga," Tomsula said.

Former Australian rubgy stat Jarryd Hayne was getting work at running back -- taking handoffs from undrafted rookie quarterback Dylan Thompson -- as well as fielding punts.

"It’s easier to catch a football than a rugby ball," Tomsula said, citing the wind playing tricks with the more oblong rugby sphere. "That’s the man in Australia. Giving that up to come here and start at the bottom of the totem pole says a lot about him ... he’s a neat dude."

Tomsula also said it was unlikely the 49ers would add a tryout quarterback for this weekend’s camp as an additional arm.

A few pictures I took and posted on Twitter, then, of the rookies working out.
